What Could Smyrna Learn from Clarksville's Arts Scene?

Last Updated 2/21/2026

Members of the arts and culture advisory committee recently took a short road trip from Smyrna to Clarksville—and what they discovered is worth your time and imagination.

In this video, you’ll see how Clarksville has intentionally invested in arts and culture as a driver of community pride, economic impact, tourism, and connection. From public art and monthly art walks to children’s programs, restored historic spaces, museums, writers’ conferences, and creative partnerships with businesses, schools, and civic groups, the message is clear: the arts don’t just decorate a community—they activate it.

Again and again, the conversation comes back to a few powerful ideas:

  • Creating spaces and places where people gather

  • Recognizing the economic and health benefits of the arts

  • Telling local stories so residents can see themselves reflected

  • Welcoming collaboration across government, nonprofits, businesses, and creatives

Clarksville’s leaders emphasize that there’s “no such thing as a bad idea”—you get ideas on the table, test what works, and build momentum together. That mindset has helped grow audiences, memberships, tourism, and a shared sense of belonging.

As you watch the video, we invite you to look at Smyrna through a new lens.

What do you envision for Smyrna?

  • Public art along our streets or greenways?

  • An art walk that brings people downtown each month?

  • A space that tells Smyrna’s story—past, present, and future?

  • More opportunities for children, families, and local creatives to shine?

Take a few minutes to watch, dream, and reflect. Then join the conversation. Smyrna’s arts and culture story is still being written—and your ideas matter. Find the full video on our FUTURE VISION page.
